Organization Overview
Research in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, led by Dr. Nathaniel Heintz, aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies, and individual molecules that contribute to the function of the mammalian brain and to its dysfunction in disease. Understanding the distinct classes of neurons and the circuits that control specific aspects of cognition and behavior can lead to more targeted treatments for central nervous system disorders.
Overview
Our lab seeks a highly motivated Bioinformatics Specialist to work on a project that studies Huntington's disease; our goal being the identification of novel strategies that will slow the progression of the disease.
Responsibilities
The person who will join our team will be responsible for:
Large-scale genomic/transcriptomic data management, working with another bioinformatics professional, staff programmer and experimental biologists to maximize impact
Reviewing and developing new code to continuously improve computational pipelines such as those used to analyze:
RNAseq data
ChIP-Seq data
bisulfite/ oxidative bisulfite sequencing (BS/oxBSseq) data
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics or ability to demonstrate experience and skills in Computational Biology.
Must be:
Highly creative and motivated
Have a solid bioinformatics background, including:
familiarity with open-source bioinformatics tools/ databases
next generation sequence alignment for:
RNAseq
ATACseq
BSseq and oxBSseq experiments
Single-cell RNAseq
Clustering
Differential expression analysis
Quality assurance processes
Statistical analysis
Methods for data visualization
As this job is both a service position and an opportunity to develop new approaches for data analysis, fluency in R/python and Unix is mandatory. The opportunity to explore new technologies/ platforms, such as NanoString GeoMx or 10X Visium spatial transcriptomics, to keep pace with rapid advances in sequencing technology will be available.
