Department Description

The Rockefeller University is a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in biomedical sciences. The Rockefeller University Dean's Office oversees the educational programs at the university, including the Ph.D. and postdoctoral programs and the Chemers Neustein Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program.

Detailed Description

The Dean's Office Assistant and SURF Coordinator will help run the daily activities of the Dean's Office and provide support to the University's education programs, including the graduate, postdoctoral, and SURF programs. The position involves daily interaction with faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff. Will oversee the coordination of application materials, assist with recruiting for graduate Open House events, including off-campus events, and organize logistics for workshops, courses, and other special events. Will assist with onboarding new students, special projects and act as the primary liaison between the SURF students and the Program Director, helping organize all aspects of the summer program and its various events, both educational and social. In addition to assisting visitors, daily responsibilities include providing administrative support to the Dean's Office (responding to incoming calls and emails, handling financial transactions, monitoring and maintaining office supplies, assisting students with supply and equipment purchases, and other clerical duties).

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; 2-3 years of previous office experience preferred. Experience in a higher education environment is a plus. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and writing) skills. Superior organizational, planning and problem-solving skills are necessary. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and other digital communication platforms required. Must be highly motivated and team-oriented.
