Organization Overview
The Office of Technology Transfer at The Rockefeller University manages and oversees all aspects of commercially relevant intellectual property generated by the University's world-class scientific research laboratories. OTT supports the research enterprise at the University through a variety of activities, including scouting for technologies, patenting inventions, finding commercial partners and negotiating transactions with fair and equitable terms, and monitoring post-deal compliance. The office is expanding and looking for hands-on, enthusiastic talent to continue to build on a best-in-class approach to academic technology management and commercialization.
Overview
OTT is looking to build out a support function for the intellectual property and all operational functions of the office. We are seeking an extremely organized individual to serve as a main coordinator at the nexus of intellectual property management, finance, operations, and day-to-day office functionality. As a results-based and solutions-oriented office, we are seeking a candidate who will seamlessly fit into established processes, but also demonstrate creativity and willingness to find new ways to help create the leading edge for the business.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate would have experience as a patent paralegal or an equivalent position, have a comprehensive knowledge efficient data entry and enthusiasm for creating processes and controls to ensure data and reports are meaningful for reporting to leadership within the organization. This is a terrific opportunity to grow professionally in a small, cross-functional office with numerous stakeholders focused on translating laboratory findings to products.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Receiving technology and patent related documents, performing data entry related to docketing, and coordinating action with intellectual property strategists (internal and external); including correspondence related to administrative matters
Receiving legal invoices and liaising with patent and finance colleagues to ensure timely review for accuracy and appropriately documenting billing and processing for payment
Monitoring and reporting obligations related to intellectual property generated by federal and foundation funding
Ensuring all database information is correct and working with colleagues to generate and track intellectual property activities, contracting activities, and reports as the office transitions to a paperless work environment
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
2+ years of relevant work experience, which may include serving in an intellectual property-related role at a law firm, biotech company, technology transfer office, or similar organization.
Working knowledge of patent docketing procedures a must, and familiarity with the billing system LEDES is a plus
Ability to read and interpret general patent and business correspondence and documents in order to classify, triage, and coordinate as appropriate
Impeccable attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Superior interpersonal skills that will translate to easily working with people up and down any organization’s hierarchy
Strong computer and database skills
Comfortable with a growing office that requires a nimbleness to adapt to new and unknown situations
