Organization Overview
The Laboratory of Metabolic Regulation and Genetics, led by Dr. Kivanç Birsoy, studies how metabolic pathways regulate biological processes and contribute to diseases, including cancer, mitochondrial disorders, and inborn errors of metabolism. Using genetic and metabolomic tools, the lab studies the mechanisms by which human cells alter their uptake and use of nutrients to adapt to the genetic and environmental stresses observed in these disorders.
Overview
We are seeking a passionate, detail-oriented research assistant to participate in our projects to figure out the regulation of metabolic pathways in biological processes. The research assistant is expected to complete the given daily tasks independently and should be able to work with graduate students and postdocs in the laboratory.
Responsibilities
Performing research using general molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR, Western Blot, etc.
Preparing common buffers and materials for the laboratory
Receiving orders from Receiving, Stockroom, and Mailroom
Coordinating with the laboratory manager to keep the laboratory organized and to ensure a smooth working environment
Helping lab members with maintaining their lab animal colonies and genotyping
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. The research assistant should be familiar with basic molecular biology techniques, especially mammalian cell culture. S/he is also expected to complete some uncomplicated tasks on her/his own, i.e. preparing buffers.
