Organization Overview
Research in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, led by Dr. Nathaniel Heintz, aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies, and individual molecules that contribute to the function of the mammalian brain and to its dysfunction in disease. Understanding the distinct classes of neurons and the circuits that control specific aspects of cognition and behavior can lead to more targeted treatments for central nervous system disorders.
Overview
The goal of this project is to identify novel strategies to delay onset and/or slow progression of Huntingdon's disease.The Research Assistant will be responsible for the preparation of human brain samples for next generation sequencing.
Responsibilities
Specific tasks include:
Subcellular fractionation
Isolation of cell components with antibodies or DNA probes (via FACs)
RNA extraction
cDNA preparation
PCR, gel electrophoresis and library preparation
Preparing genetic material for trinucleotide repeat sizing
Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Good computer skills and familiarity with NCBI database tools.
Good communication skills
Ablity to keep clear accurate records
Preferred:
Previous experience with RNA isolation and in situ hybridization
Familiarity with established profiling assays such as ATAC-Seq, bisulfite-Seq and Ox-bisulfite-Seq to elucidate the epigenetic properties of the DNA
