Description
Job Title Research Assistant (Salary Range: $46K-$50K)
Laboratory / Department Liu Laboratory
Department Description
Detailed Description
The Liu Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to help work on ongoing projects in the lab, investigating mechanistic questions at the forefront of chromatin biology using quantitative biophysical and biochemical approaches. Specifically, this project seeks to understand how biomolecular machines (such as DNA replication and transcription complexes) move on a crowded DNA track to carry out their functions with exquisite fidelity while maintaining genome stability. The Research Assistant will work closely with a postdoctoral mentor and learn how to set up and collect data from single-molecule fluorescence and optical tweezers assays, gaining a broader understanding of biochemical techniques for studying protein-DNA/RNA interactions. The targeted salary is $46,000 to $50,000.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, biophysics, or related subjects preferred. Individuals hired will learn specific wet lab and experimental skills relevant to the project, and thus we are mainly seeking individuals who are self-motivated, disciplined, positive, and maintain a high level of time management and organizational skills. Most importantly, we are looking for individuals who work well in a group and support the lab as a team. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain research experience in biochemistry, chemical biology, and/or biophysics within a productive and warm lab environment. We are committed to providing individualized mentorship for each mentee, including tailored skill development and close support for their next career step (e.g., applying to graduate or medical school). Individuals from underrepresented backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.
