Department Description
Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus) and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).
Detailed Description
The goal of this project is to optimize and develop SARS-CoV2 replicons for studying SARS-CoV2 biology and for high-throughput uses such as drug screening. The Research Assistant will assist with experiments related to optimization and utilization of SARS-CoV2 replicon systems. Responsibilities include novel cloning strategies (including using yeast systems), RNA vitro-transcription and transfection into mammalian cells, high-throughput screens and reporter assays, as well as generation, concentration, and quantification of virus-like particles in a BSL2 environment.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; Master's degree will be considered. Must have experience with cloning and molecular virology techniques (especially RNA work). Sterile technique and mammalian cell culture is a plus. Experience working with pathogens, particularly viruses is a plus. Must be mature, detailed-oriented, organized, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and be willing to work both independently and as a team member. Must be willing to work with live viruses, radioactivity, small animals, experimentally required chemicals, and be physically able to follow biocontainment rules.
