Department Description

The fundamental structure of chromatin suggests that all DNA-templated processes, including a wide range of epigenetic phenomena, are influenced by chromatin alterations with far-reaching implications for human biology and disease. Research in Dr. Allis' laboratory is centered on chromatin and its regulation though post-translational modification of histone (and non-histone) proteins, ATP-dependent remodeling of chromatin, and the exchange of histone variants.

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will contribute directly to graduate student and post-doc driven research projects. Responsibilities include performing cell culture, cell-based epigenetics assays (eg. ChIP, DNA methylation and/or produce next-generation sequencing libraries), and mouse colony management. Other duties may include recording data and analyzing results, maintaining and performing experiments with cells in tissue culture, maintaining inventory of frozen cell stocks, preparing laboratory reagents, chemicals, and instruments, as well as maintaining equipment. Will also help with general lab management duties, such as ordering reagents, managing package receiving, etc.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's in Science required; educational emphasis in biology, biochemistry, genomics or other life sciences preferred. Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and thrive in a fast-paced environment working as a part of a team. Previous experience with cell culture, mouse handling, molecular biology and/or biochemical techniques are strongly preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
