Organization Overview
The Flow Cytometry Resource Center (FCRC) provides University investigators with equipment and support for cell sorting (separation), acquisition, and analysis of flow cytometric data. The FCRC has a wide variety of state-of-art multi-laser/multi-color flow cytometry sorters and analyzers, as well as a spectral flow cytometers. For cell sorting, the FCRC at RU is equipped with four Cell Sorters: three BD FACSAria from BD Biosciences and one Sony MA900 from Sony Biotechnology. For analysis purposes, the FCRC at RU is equipped with six benchtop analyzers, which cover the wide range of researcher’s needs. To help researchers to improve sample quality for the Flow Cytometry and downstream experimental approaches, FCRC has established and is growing the pipelines of the sample preparation equipment. For data analysis, FCRC has six analysis workstations, which are loaded with the flow cytometry and office software for data analysis and preparation materials for the publications. The FCRC five full-time staff members maintain the instruments, assist with experimental design and troubleshooting, advise on sample preparation, consult on data analysis, and provide individualized training.
Overview
The Senior Research Support Specialist will provide consulting, training, support of and direct service for flow cytometric studies/research.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
Independent operation, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance of the FCRC instruments
Assisting users with experimental design and analysis
Conducting QC operations
Tracking and documenting activities in accordance with Center SOPs
Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested
Qualifications
Requirements:
Master's degree required, Ph.D. strongly preferred
Educational emphasis in biological, medical or physical science
Relevant flow cytometry experience (at least three years)
Minimum of five concurrent or additional years of laboratory experience
Competency with cell sorting is highly desirable
Ability to wear/use a particulate filter respirator and lift 40 pounds
Preferable skills:
General laboratory experience working with cell cultures and cells ex vivo
Good verbal communication skills
Ability to interact successfully with broad range of individuals within and outside of the University
Computer competency in both PC and MAC systems; competency in relevant computer programs
Attention to detail
Ability and willingness to work flexible/staggered shifts. (Full time, M-F, shifts may range from 8-4 to 12-8pm)
